Melbourne has so much to offer. I love experiencing new places and events and sharing them with you. I have an interest in gluten free, vegan and vegetarian diets so I will let you know if you these can be catered for in my reviews.

Fresh healthy woodfired pizza
Forging a new standard in Pizza in Ballarat is Forge Pizza. Opening in 2010, this little pizzeria won two Golden Plate Awards for the region in 2011 - which were most improved venue and highly commended best unlicensed cafe 2011.

It is not hard to see why. We enjoyed the whole experience; the staff, the charm, even the old school desks and doors which were used as tables. This place has been put together with passion.

It has a warm, industrial vibe. In the iron age, blacksmith's forge consisted of a raised brick hearth outfitted with bellows to feed its soft-coal fire and a hood to carry away the smoke. The woodfired pizza here is the forge, the focus and the theme. Friendly smiling staff wearing blacksmith uniforms, greeted us. Behind the corrugated iron counter we could watch dough being stretched, pizzas being topped and put into the wood fired oven set at 400 degrees.

Having started on our wine, we took time to read the menu. There are quite a few vegetarian options. Besides the usual vegetarian, margarita or napolitana, they had:

The Forge grilled eggplant, parsley, crunchy garlic bread crumbs, tomato, mozzarella, basil and shaved parmesan.
Sweet potato Sweet potato, gorgonzola, mozzerlla, garlic, rosemary, topped with rocket, walnut and parmesan

They also had a couple of interesting options such as
Pear thinly sliced pear, prociutto, gorgonzola, topped with rocket walnut and parmasan.

And the intriguing
Johnny Cash the menu states this is the hottest pizza in the world, and to discuss with staff before ordering.

We enjoyed the pizza and could taste the quality of the ingredients - you couldn't get fresher, tastier pizza in my opinion. Not greasy, not mass produced, made with love and care.

Opposite the golf course, it is a little out of town, but definitely worth the visit.
