A road trip around beautiful Tasmania is one of those must-do things and I have found the perfect place to call home when you stop over in Launceston. Forest Road Apartments is located in the suburb of Trevallyn, only five minutes from the city centre. We stayed in Apartment 92A with picture perfect views of the Tamar River. The scene changes depending on time of day and weather, and we never got bored with staring out the huge windows in the living room.

The home is spacious, clean and extremely well equipped. Jo, the host, is very generous and everything you need has been thought of. The rooms were fantastic. Both have views of the river and the kids' room was colourfully made up for them.

The kitchen is better stocked than my own pantry, with a wide range of tea and coffee to suit every taste, as well as staples such as cereal, rice, flour, sugar and salt. There was even a recipe and ingredients for making the famous "Forest Road Cupcakes" (as my kids aptly named them). It was a great little activity for the kids to do and even more perfect as it was my birthday and so the kids baked birthday cupcakes for me! We even found candles and matches in the kitchen cupboards – truly a host who has thought of every little detail! The cupcakes were deliciously moist and tasty and my son even copied the recipe so we could make them at home.

One of the absolute highlights has to be the bunnies. At the lower end of the property, there is a huge rabbit pen with about six bunnies. Most of these bunnies were from a rescue shelter. We went down every single morning to feed and cuddle the rabbits. The kids completely fell in love with them! There are also a few chickens that roam the gardens and you can feed them as well.

Much to my daughter's delight, there is a whole shelf inside the cupboard filled with craft material. Stickers, patterned cardboard, shape cutters, markers – it was truly her dream come true. On the first morning she woke up before 6am because she was so excited about doing craft! There were also plenty of kids' books (picture books and novels), toys and DVDs available.
Forest Road Apartments is a great place to base yourself for a weekend in Launceston. Visit the beautiful vineyards in Tamar Valley and check out all the great things to do in the city. The kids in particular will enjoy flying over Cataract Gorge in the chair lift and watching the monkeys at City Park, as well as the Phenomena Factory at the QVMAG museum and the Platypus House.
