Parents and children will be satisfied these school holidays with an activity that's both fun and educational.

If your child has ever expressed an interest in conservation and animal research, give them the opportunity to become a ranger for the day. The Forest Rangers Trail at Melbourne Zoo ( zoo&ie=UTF8&hq=melbourne zoo&hnear=Melbourne Zoo, Elliott Ave, Parkville VIC 3052 Victoria 3052&ll=-37.778992,144.95327&spn=0.028221,0.0842&z=14&iwloc=A Melbourne Zoological Gardens, Elliot Avenue, Parkville ) provides visitors with information about the zoos preservation programs.

Junior Forest Rangers are given clues to track down the secret signs used to follow and protect wildlife from Australia and overseas. Participants can learn more about how the zoo is saving wildlife and what the public can do to help and there are also fun animal puppets to play with afterwards.

The Forest Rangers Trail is open between 9 April and 26 April from 9.00am until 5.00pm. The cost of this activity is included in zoo admission.

Melbourne Zoo is Australia's oldest zoo and currently houses more than 310 animals species. The zoo is open seven days a week from 9.00am until 5.00pm and general admission is $24.80 for adults and $12.40 for children (although specials do apply for concession holders and carers; see the Melbourne Zoo website for more information).
