In America, ParkRx's toolkit of prescriptions and treatment plans for a diverse range of evidence-based nature therapies are fast being adopted and utilised by health professionals and service providers with resounding success. Dr Robert Zarr is an American based paediatrician and the founder and medical director of ParkRx America, the nature prescription platform for doctors to prescribe time in nature for their patients.

This Sunday, 13 October 2019, join Dr Zarr and experience his expertise as a Forest and Nature Therapy Guide, as he co-guides a forest bathing session, at Oaklands Wetland and Reserve with Bronwyn Paynter, of Flourish Nature Based OT. Bronwyn is an Adelaide-based occupational therapist, permaculture designer and is also a certified Nature and Forest Therapy Guide, offering a diverse range of nature-based therapy options. This forest bathing session will commence at 2pm and conclude at 4.30pm. Tickets can be purchased via Eventbrite at a cost of $60 plus booking fee.

So, what is forest bathing? Forest bathing originates from (and translates to) the Japanese practice of Shinrin Yoku and is suitable for all ages and fitness levels. Forest bathing requires slow, peaceful, mindful movement, in which the 5 senses are called upon (listening, touching, smelling, tasting and seeing), in which the participant accepts the invitation to connect to the nature surrounding them. Evidence-based outcomes of regularly practising Shinrin Yoku/forest bathing show marked improvements in participant's health and wellbeing, both physically and mentally.

Forest bathing is becoming very popular and with good reason. I always feel so much more at peace in bush.
