The unofficial dog beach of Wynnum Manly is now official for the next 10 months or so. The Brisbane City Council is trialling the off-leash area. This is a great initiative and one that provides welcome relief for dog owners in the hot summer months. The beach is set at the back of the Manly Yacht club, in a small bay where the water remains relatively shallow even at high tide. Dogs and owners can swim and romp to their heart's delight.



The trial is based on the success of the beach and dog owners should take note of the signs informing them where they can let their dogs off the leash.



Importantly these signs also advertise when the Council will hold consultations regarding the success of the beach. The trial should be a success but depends upon the commitment of dog owners who enjoy this freedom to ensure it does so check the sign and make a note of when you can help out.

Be aware that the beach is shared with windsurfers, kite surfers and swimmers so ensure you exercise control over your dog family the whole time you are there. The landing and breeding sites of migratory birds are protected by a large fence that prevents dogs and people from encroaching on their area, and of course over, the years they may have learnt to avoid the beach due to the high number of kite surfers that frequent it. And, most importantly enjoy yourself.
