Being such a multicultural city, there are plenty of options for those wanting to embrace another culture in Melbourne. Impress your date by taking them on an overseas experience, right in their very own city. And don't forget to finish with a French kiss.

The Spanish Date
Show your adventurous side by taking a salsa dancing class together. The Salsa Foundation offers free beginners classes in the city on Wednesday and Thursday evenings at 5:30pm - booking is essential. Once you're all shimmied out, head to a tapas bar such as Liquid in the Docklands, and sample a variety of Spanish dishes.

The Japanese Date
Not such a keen dancer? Break out the bad singing instead, and do karaoke on a Japanese themed date. KBox Karaoke in the city promises a delightfully Asian experience, and you can hire a private room so your voice doesn't embarrass you too much. As for food, there are endless Japanese retaurants in Melbourne so select according to your budget. If you have a bottomless wallet, go for the best and dine at the trendy Verge Japanese restaurant on Flinders Lane.

The Greek Date
Perfect for a day date in the heat of summer, so you can pretend you're in exotic Greece rather than rainy Melbourne, get a light lunch at the tellingly blue and white striped Hellenic Republic on Lygon Street. Then, you can take the route 1 or route 8 tram to within walking distance of the Hellenic Museum. Housed in the former Royal Mint Building, the museum has a permanent display of ancient Greek relics and features new temporary exhibitions regularly. The museum is open from 10am to 4pm on weekdays, and the restaurant is open for lunch on Friday to Sunday and daily for dinner.

The American Date
Don your leather jacket and baseball cap and let your gut hang out while you regress to retro Americana. First gorge yourself at an 1950s America styled diner, such as Misty's or Soda Rock. Then continue your USA affair with Highway 66 mini tenpin bowling at Sidetracked.

Why? Because you can't afford an airfare, but you can scrape together a few dollars for a train ticket.

Fun ideas! Very Sex and the City. I wouldn't want anyone to get to know me by taking them to karaoke though (think Cameron Diaz in My Best Friend's Wedding)... :)
