Pubs like every other hospitality venue have been doing it tough during the pandemic. Restrictions will lift and hopefully, your particular local hotel will make it through to once again pour you a beer.

In the meantime and up until October 6, 2020, there is a way to support your local hotel and do yourself a favour at the same time. Carlton and United Breweries (CUB) have joined with the Australian Hotels Association in an initiative whereby you support your local pub by buying a beer voucher today; CUB matches that by shouting you another pint for pint, with a free pint. So people get 2 for 1 pints when their local re-opens.

"Some venues are facing the prospect of never opening their doors again if they don't get cash flow. It is an unprecedented challenge, not even during the world wars or the Depression did the pubs close.
"But we know Australians want pubs and clubs to keep their place at the heart of many local communities once this crisis is over. So if you love your local, or just want to help save the great Aussie tradition of going to the pub, buy a pint of beer in their hour of need."
For the Love of Your Local is running across the country. You buy a pint using PayPal to ensure venues get the money quickly and, when doors re-open, you'll be emailed a voucher to exchange for two pints.
CUB has offered to donate up to $1 million worth of kegs to venues but this could increase if required.
How it works
You need to elect your local pub and the voucher is redeemable at that venue. Or you can shout a mate and then they choose their local hotel. The pubs listed are in most states. You can see if your local is listed here.
You pay either $10 or $12 depending on the region. You order here.
Once it is clear when and what venues will be allowed to reopen you'll be sent a follow-up email with voucher details and instructions on how to redeem.
How are the vouchers delivered?
Pint vouchers will be delivered virtually. You will receive an order confirmation as soon as you check out and your pint voucher will follow later.
How long have you got to buy your voucher?
This campaign will run until midnight AEST October 6th 2020, so get in quick to support your local.
Pint vouchers are linked to your preferred venue
The pint vouchers will be unique to the venue where you pre-purchased a voucher from. So if you have two locals, pre-purchase a pint from each.
How long are the vouchers valid for?
Pint vouchers are valid for three years from the date of purchase.
Important point to note
Your pre-purchased voucher is a donation to your local at a time when they're doing it tough. If your pub doesn't reopen, they will keep your donation. There will be no refunds.
A lot of people think their local pubs are institutions that they wish to support during this time. And they look forward to that pint with a mate.
