We visited the Footscray Milking Station for breakfast on the weekend and just had to share this little gem with you.

Set in what is a suburban street corner, it is unassuming from the outside, an old milk bar perhaps? There are tables to sit at outside, but we ventured inside away from the cold wintery Melbourne day.

My feeling right away was that of warmth - an exposed brick fireplace, timber tables, old milk kegs, and green themed walls and aprons make you feel immediately at home. It was warm and cosy and we were immediately greeted by staff who sat us down on the only table still available.

Water was served in old milk bottles, a nice touch. The menu was interesting and does cater for vegetarian, vegan and gluten free diets. It is child friendly; we had a couple of tables with families enjoying their Sunday breakfast near us.

Our meals were good. My baked beans were homemade and so tasty - the dish was served in cast iron with toast on the side. Coffee was delightful, we both had two coffees each.

There seemed to be an endless stream of people waiting while we enjoyed our breakfast, but we didn't feel rushed or hurried by the staff.

The Footscray Milking Station is delightful and a surprising discovery, the perfect little spot for breakfast in the 'burbs.
