As any teenager will tell you, being a teenager is hard. There's the oppressive parents with rules, there's the raging hormones, there's that cute girl we're too scared to talk to.

The 1984 movie Footloose was all about this teenaged angst, with added music. Such was its success that in 1998 it was made into a stage musical. Book by Dean Pitchford and Walter Robbie, music by Tom Snow and others.

The plot revolves around singing and dance-loving teen Ren McCormack is forced by circumstances to move with his mom Ethel from big city Chicago to small-town Bomont - or as his friends say when the news is broken to them: "Bomont?! Where the hell is Bomont?!"

Bomant is small-town puritanical and the city council has banned dancing and rock music because of a powerful sermon from Reverend Shaw Moore following the death of four teenagers driving home after a dance.

Rev Moore's troubled daughter Ariel attracts Ren, but she has an abusive boyfriend. Ren and his new friends plan on presenting a compelling argument to the Town Council to permit a senior prom, using passages from the Bible to support their cause.

The musical's score was nominated for an Oscar and has sold over 15 million copies world-wide.

This is the great musical that now bursts onto the stage at Marloo Theatre , with a huge assist from the Isaia family. Joe Isaia is directing, Kylie Isaia plays Vi Moore, Brittany Isaia plays her daughter, Ariel and the choreography was created and directed by Arianah Isaia. Musical direction by Suzanne Kosowitz.

Others in the cast, and Joe has attracted a highly talented group, include Clare Fazackerley, Jacqui Warner, Rodney Van Groningen, Chris Ball, Rachel Vonk, David Seamen, Channing Whitworth and many more.

Footloose runs from February the 12th to March 12th at Marloo Theatre, Marloo Road, Greenmount at 8:00pm and 2:00pm for matinees. Tickets cost $25 (concession $22) and may be obtained by ringing Gwyne on 9255 1783 or the Trybooking website here .

Interesting trivia: The musical is based on a true story, the town of Elmore City, Oklahoma.
