Everyone can enjoy this type of golf
Stop what you are doing people, there is a new craze sweeping the land and you have to give it a go! Footgolf is the name of the game and we are lucky enough to have a new course in Brisbane ready for you to give it a go. Don't wait too long though, because I am 100% certain that this is going to become extremely popular in the near future.
Footgolf hasn't been around for too long but there has been a variation of the game played in Switzerland since the 80s. Basically, you play on a smaller golf course than normal and kick a soccer ball into a significantly larger hole than normal.
There are a heap of obstacles in your way to victory.
We played on the Mt Gravatt course, which also has a mini golf course, for those who want to double up, and is situated on the Showgrounds. Each of the nine holes is about 50metres long and has a par of either 3 or 4. We really enjoyed competing against each other. We argued over whose first kick had the most power and length and then after that we engaged in friendly banter about the accuracy of the following kicks. It was also hilarious watching each others' balls hit the various obstacles and bounce off in the wrong direction. On the second hole I somehow ended up out of bounds and earn a two stoke penalty, and later on the hubby's inaccurate kick landed him in the sand, of which he struggled to get out of.
It is a great family activity that adults can enjoy just as much as kids, as you can play at your own pace, taking as much time as you need. And there is shaded cover if you need to take a break. It is also perfect for any kind of party as the venue is open until 8pm most nights and even stays open as long as 10pm on Saturday. The game itself cost us $10 each plus $2 to hire a soccer ball - but you can bring your own from home which makes an even more budget friendly activity. If you want to extend you time there you can play a round of footgolf and mini golf (with ball hire) for a low $22. I really get excited when brilliant activities like this pop up in our beautiful city that are also kind to the bank balance.
