Nostalgic for the drive-ins of old? Remember when that was the first choice of a loved-up date back in the 70s, preferably in a panel van? Here's your chance to revisit that time. The AMFG and the Coburg Drive-In (155 Newlands Rd, Coburg ~ ph. 1300 555 400) bring you Melbourne's first ever outdoor cinema food truck festival on Wed 30 July 2014 from 5.30 pm. The 3 largest screens in the southern hemisphere will be screening the latest releases, Hercules, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and Sex Tape.

Organise a party, grab your family, your friends, fill a carload and head on down. Melbourne's favourite food trucks will be serving up burritos and Spanish BBQ to burgers and Asian street food i.e. Iv's Burritos , Mr Burger , Nandos , Señor Churro , Nem N' Nem Vietnamese Hawker Kitchen and Señor BBQ will roll into the popular drive-In once a month from 30 July onwards. The '50s style diner of the drive-in will also serve a variety of take away food and confectionery, plus a full hot food menu that includes burgers, hot dogs, chips and donuts, including the traditional Coke, popcorn and Choctops.

Australian Mobile Food Vendors Group Pty Ltd (AMFVG) is a services company that provides products and services for Mobile Food Vendors. Co-presenting with the Coburg drive-in, they bring you this virgin festival now that the Council has lifted the ban and allowed trucks to set up shop and trade outside of special events. Not only will Melbourne's first ever food truck event operate at the drive-in, from this Wednesday (30 July 2014), a dozen mobile vendors will also be stationed at seven locations from outside the National Gallery of Victoria to near the Shrine of Remembrance.

This is only the first step of a three month trial towards making the City of Melbourne more welcoming towards food truck operators. In the name of being fair, Council has authorised sites that have the potential to be popular, without the location being in direct competition with nearby restaurants and businesses. There is hope that the food trucks will activate outdoor spaces that are being under utilised i.e. Melbourne's beautiful parks. Hopefully movies like 'CHEF' that was on earlier this year has titillated everyone's interest enough to get the food trucks trending in our great City of Melbourne, and thus join the global cities such as Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and London, where gourmet food vans are a defining part of the culinary scene.
