Tucked away in a suburban street in Burwood, this beautiful, family-friendly café makes breakfast and brunch an experience your tastebuds will remember. You'll fall in love with the
Foodrinkery as soon as you step inside to the rustic décor, complete with whitewashed walls and wooden chairs. I discovered this place after searching for local cafes in The Age's Good Café Guide, where the Foodrinkery has made an appearance in the 2012 and 2013 edition and it's easy to see why. Now before my mouth starts watering while I think about their chermoula eggs let me attempt to describe their indescribable, fair trade coffee.
The coffee at the Foodrinkery is the closest a person can get to experience the taste of love in a cup. Yes, that's a bold statement, but combined with the summery ambience of the café and the friendliness of the staff, you'll find that great coffee isn't just restricted to Fitzroy or Melbourne's CBD. If you're lucky and the Foodrinkery is not very busy, the talented barista might just write a message in your coffee, such as my name in the picture below. He even claimed to write "I love you" in his girlfriend's coffees. That's right ladies, line up. Be sure to also try their Vietnamese iced coffee for the more sweet toothed Foodrinkery-ers.
Not only is their coffee magnificent, but their diverse breakfast and lunch menu is both delicious and won't create a hole in your wallet, with nothing over $15. flanks Banksia Park and in the summer you can hire picnic rugs from the café to eat and drink under the sun. This place is ideal for families, where parents can keep an eye on their children in the playground while sipping on iced coffees and attempting to save some cake for the kids.
Their varied menu caters for every appetite with a selection ranging from lighter options - Portobello Mushrooms with goats cheese, poached egg and fresh bread, or their delicate coconut tapioca - to their more comforting Baked Beans with house made ratatouille, poached egg an toasted ciabatta, or their Chermoula Eggs (my personal favourite) with zucchini and smashed pumpkin on toasted Turkish bread. If you haven't started salivating already, you will once the food is set before you.
