is exactly what the sleepy St George area has been waiting for: a decent place for a good cup of Saturday morning coffee or brunch.

Foodies not only looks like it belongs in a trendy inner-city location with it's funky bare brick walls and concrete floor, but also features great food and a friendly attitude, putting many of it's Eastern Suburbs rivals to shame.

A fairly small space, I recommend you check it out before word spreads and the locals make it impossible to get a table. Or pop in on a rainy week-day, as I did, for a more chilled out vibe, but watch out for the prams peeking out from every corner.

I ordered the chicken risotto, and found myself scraping every last creamy grain from my bowl, and it was not a small serve by any standards. My latte went down so smoothly, there had been no time to moan about it's quality, or the need to redeem it with a truckload of sugar.

Hidden away on quiet Clareville Avenue in Sandringham, surely marks the beginning of a new gastronomical era in the South East. And as a long time local, I'll be the first to admit that we need more like it.
