My mind is never far from food; in my opinion it is one of life's greatest pleasures. We love our food in Melbourne – our ethnic melting pot gives us the advantage of being exposed to all kinds of amazing cuisine, from every corner of the world. There is a veritable cornucopia of food related fun to be had in Melbourne throughout the year, and October is no exception. Try one of these foodie events happening over the next month in our tantalising city:

Gluten Free Expo. Never has it been so popular to be gluten free. This huge expo will be held on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th of October at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. Over seventy exhibitors will be present allowing you to indulge in all things non-gluten. There will be new products to discover, a huge range of samples to taste and plenty of bargains to be had. Not only are the coeliacs catered for, but low FODMAP, vegetarian, vegan and lactose free dieters will also find products to suite their needs. Click here for details.

Oktoberfest In The Gardens. This perennial favourite features a massive beer hall and authentic German food stalls to get your gastric juices flowing. Sample German favourites such as bratwurst or kranski sausages, as well as roast pork rolls off the spit and gingerbread men. To complement the food and imported beer and cider, there will be roving performers, a silent disco and an eclectic mix of entertainment throughout the afternoon and evening. Oktoberfest is being held on Saturday 19th October at the Melbourne Showgrounds. Click here for details.

Holey Cheese Festival. This one has my name written all over it. Was there ever such a delight for the tastebuds as cheese? Queen Vic Market is running its five day long cheese festival between Tuesday 22 October and Sunday 27th October and it features cheese, wine and music. You can sample a huge variety of cheese from across the state including hard cheese, soft cheese, blue cheese and aged cheese from regular market traders as well as local producers. Food trucks will also tempt you with a variety of cheese-based dishes. In short it's a cheese-fest. Click here for details.

Arriba! Melbourne Mexican Festival. Although not just about food, Arriba! promises a feast of Mexican delights from salsa and guacamole, to enchiladas, burritos, and fajitas. Arriba! is a free Mexican themed event that celebrates the heritage and culture of the Mexican people. The emphasis is on Mexican cuisine and folklore, as well as the famous Day of the Dead celebrations. Mexico will be brought to you through music, bright costumes, and mariachis - a style of music and musical group performance which originated in Western Mexico. Arriba! is taking place at Flagstaff Gardens on October 26th and 27th. Click here for details.
