Foo Fighters are one of the biggest rock bands of the 1990s and 2000s. Formed in 1994, they are best known by their lead singer Dave Grohl. With hits that span almost 20 years their upcoming Australian tour is set to be one of the biggest rock hits of the year.
Foo Fighters released their most recent album, Wasting Time, in August of 2010. Their single Rope has received a lot of air play, and this album adds many hits to the Foo Fighter repertoire. Prior to their Australian shows, the Foo Fighters will be touring Europe and the United States, prepping them for some massive Aussie shows.
Some great Foo Fighter hits that will hopefully do the rounds during the tour Monkey Wrench, Breakout, Times Like These, Best Of You and The Pretender. Year after year Foo Fighters have released great songs and great albums. They have released seven studio albums, all which have reached top five positions on Australian charts.
To cement their place in the Rock Hall of Fame, lead singer Dave Grohl has also been involved with many other top rock acts. He was the drummer of 90s grunge band Nirvana, as well as on his more supergroup Them Crooked Vultures. He has also been involved with Queens of the Stone Age and played with a range of other bands. Despite this mingling with multiple bands, Foo Fighters have their own distinct sound that is guaranteed to amp up Australia's stadium venues.
Supporting Foo Fighters on their massive tour are another act that will make fans go wild. Tenacious D will be in Australia to rock with their ultimate hit, Tribute. The song that claims Tenacious D were able to write the best song in the world, and subsequently forget it. They are a hilarious all out rock band, fronted by actor and comedian Jack Black. This band has the perfect mix of rock and comedy and will be a great support act of the Foo Fighters show.
Foo Fighters are no strangers to Australia, and have also been here to help out when Aussies have needed them. When Queensland were hit by the floods at the beginning of the year, Foo Fighters raised about 1 million dollars in relief. They were also around during the Beconsfield Mine Disaster. When the trapped miners requested for Foo Fighters music to be on an Ipod sent down into the mine Dave Grohl offered them tickets to a Foo Fighters show and a beer once they were free. They also released the song Ballad of the Beaconsfield Miners on their album Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace.
During recent 2011 tours Foo Fighters also caused some press when they released their 52 page Production Rider to tour venues. The hilarious booklet teaches venues the right way to cater to bands, and make the tour experience the best for anyone. It is a very humorous piece that encapsulates the Foo Fighters. Make sure you check out both the excerpt from the Production Rider, and the colouring pages and activity book that were included.
