Don't you just love it when St Leonards gets a new cafe right next to the station? I do! Flying Egg is a new swanky little cafe which serves breakfast and lunch. Flying Egg is right next to the station and has some unique meals.

Pictured above is the Salmon Salad with Salmon Roe. It was quite nice and very pretty as you can see. I was surprised that the salmon was cooked. For some reason, I expected a sashimi salad, but this was tasty and very leafy.

The atmosphere was buzzing but not too noisy at all. There was actually a guy working on his laptop but there were also groups of people there chatting away.

If you're only after a coffee, you can sit down and have one as well. Flying Egg also has cute little share plates (garlic bread, herb bread, kumera chips, steak-cut chips and a garden salad for the health conscious). Other meals at Flying Egg include various gourmet burgers, sandwiches, fish and risotto for lunch.

I have not tried the breakfast menu out yet, but it looks tasty and diverse too. Menu items include any style of eggs on toast, bacon and eggs, double smoked ham and cheddar toastie, special scrambled eggs, ricotta and avocado on sourdough, a French omelette, pancakes, French toast, sweet corn fritters, eggs Benedict, a huge-looking breakfast with a mildly inappropriate name ("Morning Glory Breakfast"), the Green Plate, baked egg (this one looks quite cool and I want it), and even a porridge bowl.

For the health conscious , they serve at least five different salads for lunch and have legitimate vegetarian options. I was tossing up between the Salmon Salad with Salmon Roe (I am a salmon lover) and the Avocado & Corn Salad. That one looked beautiful too. The #menu ">lunch menu lists the ingredients as charred corn, confit tomato, cabbage slaw, mesclun, sunflower seeds and lemon dressing. I think I'll have that salad next time.

Last but certainly not least, I'd like to comment on the service. I found it to be lovely. The staff were very sweet and attentive and it was definitely service with a smile. I really got the vibe that they enjoy the job, which is always a fantastic feeling.

I recommend that you try this new little cafe out. It has a diverse range of food, is close to the station and is affordable given the quality of the food.
