Fifty years since Man landed on the moon ? Can't be, but it is! To celebrate this auspicious occasion, you are invited to take part in Sydney's city-wide achievement by taking to the streets on your bike and collectively cycle the 384,400 kilometres to the moon.

You can get involved in several different ways as there are numerous organised rides or some people are donating the kilometres from their daily bike travel to work or the gym. If you would like a loony lunar expedition, you can visit art installation Fly Me to the Moon at the World Square and have fun peddling on the wild "flying bike" sculpture Lunar Velocipede. This sculpture was created by Arts Company Erth Visual & Physical.

Other activities happening are as follows

  • Rhythm Spin Mini Class – these classes combine high energy dance music with an intense cardio workout for a fun ten minutes. You will be guided by Cycology Club instructor Sarhy Page. There is no need for club membership for this event. Sessions for these classes are:

  • Saturday 13 January – 12 Noon to 2.00pm (10 minutes per session)
  • Thursday 13 January – 5.00pm to 7.00pm (10 minutes per session)
  • Sunday 20 January – 12 Noon to 2.00pom (10 minutes per session)

  • The Welcome Choir of Newton is a drop-in choir and open to people with any variety of singing ability. There are no auditions and no audience, just a get together for a communal singing experience. On Tuesday 15th January at 6.30pm, join them at the World Square and sing en masse, the Frank Sinatra and Count Basie classic "Fly Me to the Moon".

  • Fly Me to the Moon Activities commenced on 9th January and continues through to 27th January 2019. Register online today keeping a track of yours and others kilometre count online. A festival moon map is available for you to collect stamps on your lunar passport. This map can be collected at the World Square.

In 1969, humans landed on the moon, perhaps in the next fifty years, we will actually be cycling around the moon, as many people make the exit from Earth to start a new life there.
