Take the kids along to the Gallery of Modern Art's Fly Away Home Exhibition, which is part of the "Contemporary Australia: Women" Exhibition. As they enter the exhibition space, a little paper bag full of inspirational materials to make a bird and nest is presented - recycled paper, paper cup, special "money" and a bird outline. Then you walk into an amazing nest-like room to sit at child friendly activity stations full of pens, scissors, sticky tape and glue. Kid Heaven indeed.
Fly Away Home has been thoughtfully designed by artist Fiona Hall, with children and carers in mind. There are themes of migration of both humans and birds to be explored. Thoughts of seasonal re-location float through our conversation and the need to protect the environment for the future.
