Place: Camden Airport Time: Sunday, 8.00am Mission: Should you choose to accept the terms and conditions of your gift voucher, your mission is to fly an aeroplane.
So here we are this morning with Nathan M, the recipient of a Trial Instructional Flight gift voucher with Curtis Aviation and Captain Cooper, the actual pilot who will do all the technical bits like take off and landing. In between, Nathan M, of no previous flying experience, will take control of the wheel and do gut wrenching '2g' turns and death defying '4g' drops. Well, at the very least, keep it level and keep it up in the air.
After what seems to be a very brief instruction briefing on the ground, Nathan and Captain C jump in the tiny skinny looking Citabria training plane. Before you can say 'prepare for take off', the plane taxis to the runway and takes off for a 30 minute sojourn over Warragamba Dam and the Nepean River doing some of those fancy '2g' turns. Time, as they say, flies, and Nathan M's support crew spot the blue tipped training plane fast approaching and completes a perfect landing no thanks to Nathan M.
The crew emerges with an exhilarated Nathan M declaring that despite not paying for the experience, this could have been quite an expensive flight as he may now be hooked on flying. A commercial pilots licence will set him back a mere $45 000. Such are the perils of adventure gift vouchers.
