I discovered Flower Haul with their beautiful bunches of fresh flowers on Instagram of all places. I was pleased to discover the company just in time for placing an order for Mother's Day.
Ellie was kind enough to answer some of my questions about buying flowers:
Can you please tell me about your business Flower Haul?
Sure! Flower Haul is an online flower stall where you can pop in anytime to buy your favourite market flowers. The business was created for the person (like me!) who likes to regularly accent their home and office with fresh flowers. We're not a typical florist, and so we don't specialise in styled floral arrangements or bouquets. Instead, our focus is on picking single-type bunches and delivering them direct from the flower markets to homes and offices throughout South East Queensland. There's over twenty types of flowers to choose from in our flower stall, including favourites that are available all-year-round, as well as seasonal blooms. We also offer a subscription services where you can order a particular type or style of flower, and have it delivered regularly - weekly, fortnightly or monthly.
Where do you source your flowers from?
We source our flowers from the Brisbane flower markets. Because they're always fresh from the farm, our flowers are some of the freshest and longest-lasting flowers that you can get. We pick to order all our bunches from the flower markets early in the mornings, then we pack and deliver them on the same day so they could not possibly be fresher. Many of the flowers will still be in bud form when they arrive, and can last up to three weeks in a vase. It's also worth mentioning that many of the flowers currently sold in Australia are being imported from Colombia, Ecuador, Africa or Asia and it's causing many of Australia's own flower growers to go out of business. It's our absolute promise (and pleasure!) to support local flower growers and their families by only sourcing Australian-grown flowers.
What's a single-bloom bunch?
It simply means there is only a single-type of flower in each of our bunches. For example, pink tulips or white daisies. Just like you'd see if you went to the flower markets! While we don't offer mixed bouquets or styled floral arrangements, many of our customers will a buy a few of their favourite types of flowers and mix/match themselves.
What flowers are in season when?
All of the flowers on offer in our flower stall are currently in season now, and this selection is constantly updated as flowers come in and out of season. You can view all our flower types here. The flower I do get asked about most are peonies! These pretties are only in season from October to September, unfortunately. Sorry, ladies!
What are your favourite flowers?
Tough question! I change my mind every week. Hehe. At the moment, I love snapdragons because they're in season and their colours are incredible. I love spray roses because they're bright and happy. I also love hydrangea but they aren't readily available all year long.
Can you order a one-off flower delivery?
Absolutely. All of our flowers are available as single, once-off purchases, which make them perfect for gifts as well. If you're not sure what flower you'd like, we've also got a 'Surprise Bunches' category where you can choose the style of flowers you like (eg. something pink, something pastel, something bright, something popular, etc) and we'll choose the best type of flower for you based on quality and availability at the flower markets.
If I want to buy some flowers for Mother's Day what do you recommend?
Of course, if Mum has an absolute favourite flower, then it's best to get her what she loves. The go-to favourites for Mother's Day are all available in our Mother's Day Bunches line-up. The sooner you order - the better. That way we can ensure that we'll be able to pick your Mum's favourite flower in her favourite colour. We'll also be delivering right through Mother's Day weekend (May the 7th and 8th), with free delivery within our delivery zone.
Where do you deliver?
Currently, our delivery zone includes Gympie, Sunshine Coast, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Tweed Heads and Tweed Coast. We'll be expanding up to Mackay and down to Sydney soon so stay tuned for updates!
How do I place an order for delivery?
To order, head to the
shop link on our website. From here, you can select from 'Types of Flowers' or our 'Surprise Bunches' ranges. Click on the flower type or style that you want to receive and you'll be guided through the purchase options, which include choosing your colour preferences, size of bunch, delivery frequency and preferred delivery date.
What's the secret to keeping flowers fresh for a long time?
There are lots of tips and tricks, and many flowers require specific care, which you can read here. Keeping it simple, I'd say as a basic guideline:
Remove all the leaves and foliage from the stems that sit in the water.
Trim stems 2-3cm and cut on an angle. Repeat every couple of days.
Change the water every couple of days.
Keep vases away from fruit bowls and also fans!
Finally, I'd definitely recommend buying flowers from the flower markets in order to get maximum enjoyment and the longest vase life from your flowers!
