Flower Nation is a boutique florist and styling business run by Katharina Martin from her home in Bull Creek. Katharina runs regular workshops where participants create their own floral arrangement using dried and preserved botanicals.
The workshops are conducted in her home studio and are limited to 8 people per workshop. Everything is provided, including the pot in which to create your masterpiece. There is a wide range of items to choose from including flowers, leaves, grasses and nuts. You are surrounded by inspiration and encouraged to create something unique. Katharina gives a lot of one on one assistance to each participant to help them achieve their vision. Below are some photos of some of the items available for use.
Throughout the workshop, Katharina teaches different techniques and provides advice and hands-on assistance.
Standard tickets to the workshop cost $65, where participants will create a floral arrangement measuring roughly 30x30cm. There is the option to upgrade, where for an extra $35 participants can choose a larger vase or pot and create a larger arrangement measuring roughly 40x30cm. If participants purchase a standard ticket they are welcome to upgrade during the workshop as Katharina can take EFTPOS or cash payments at her studio.
Arrangements already made up are displayed in the studio and provide great inspiration and ideas for participants.
Overall I found the workshop to be great value for money and very enjoyable. Katharina is very passionate about what she does and this comes through in her teaching. She was very patient and supportive in helping us achieve our designs. The workshop ran for 1.5 hours however Katharina did not make us feel rushed even when it ran slightly over time.
