Art is a beautiful thing. It's a way for everyone to express themselves and grow through art, music, dance and storytelling. Art gives us the opportunity to let the imagination be free, to explore, discover and embrace.
Flourish Arts Festival for families, artists and artisans, musicians, dancers and storytellers will again set the magical scene bringing families and communities together through art in a vibrant community festival at the Southport Broadwater Parklands on Saturday, September 6th 2014.
There will be many activities throughout the day. A giant art mural will be completed on the day. Bollywood dancers, interactive children's art and drama workshops, local artists and craft stalls, community tents, food stalls and the awarding of prizes from their arts competition held at local schools. Budding artists as young as four will be showcasing their amazing works in the children's KidzArt tent.
Flourish was founded by the Southport Uniting Church as a way to connect people, says the Church Reverend Dona Spencer, a former arts teacher. "It promotes the arts as pathways for healing and growth for individuals, family and the community. Art is a wonderful tool for therapeutic self expression, " she says "The arts foster stronger self esteem, flexibility and ability to make decisions, not to mention an understanding and appreciation of beauty.
The Gold Coast City Council is supporting the festival this year and well known 96.5 family radio personality Peter Janetzki will be present at the festival to deliver a key talk on the subject of raising boys.
The Flourish Arts Festival will be held from 8am - 4pm. Come along and be inspired and soak in the magic and beauty of the arts.
