Feel the silence in the gardens of Floriade
Swing by Commonwealth Park before 8am during the entire Floriade season and relish the tranquillity and beauty of the garden without the hustle and bustle of the crowd. Traditionally, this event draws in a large flock of visitors every year, which can lead to a feeling of stress for some. This morning walk will give an opportunity to anyone who prefers a more relaxing stroll in the garden, without squeezing their way through just to get a glimpse of the variety of stunning garden displays. Also, this walking activity is endorsed by the Heart Foundation Walking Program which aims to promote a healthy and active lifestyle by collaborating with walking events and activities in the ACT to encourage the public to do at least 30 minutes of exercise each day.
Everyone is welcome to partake in this walk. If you're bringing along your kids, just make sure you don't lose sight of them during the entire walk to avoid any interruptions to the group in case they wander off.
Booking is not required. Just turn up before 8am near the traffic light crossing on Commonwealth Avenue. There will be volunteer guides waiting on that spot to lead the walk.
Be in your comfortable walking shoes. This walk will take approximately 50 minutes and covers about 3km of pathways, tracing all of the major garden beds.
All the morning walks are free. A small token that will go directly to the Heart Foundation is greatly appreciated.
As spring weather can still be nit-picky, please bring your essentials to protect yourself from any unexpected conditions. Of course you can bring your camera but just bear in mind that this is a fitness walk. Stops may be limited and short so taking photographs at your own leisure is not encouraged. You can take photos, as long as you can keep up with the group.
What a better way to get your daily dose of exercise and at the same time, enjoy the beauty of spring by feeling the silence in the gardens of Floriade.
