Learn to juggle, tumble and execute thrilling aerial and acrobatic manoeuvres with Flipside Circus. From humble beginnings, Flipside Circus has grown from eight children and one circus trainer in a park, to a thriving circus of several hundred students (and growing) and enjoying sell-out seasons for their annual show at the Brisbane Powerhouse.
Flipside Circus teaches circus skills to youth aged 18 months to 18 years. Like any active sport, young people have the opportunity to increase their fitness levels, co-ordination skills and confidence while learning exciting and interactive circus skills. Furthermore, students have the opportunity to showcase their talents in a number of community and corporate events, festivals and professional shows.
Flipside Circus students have enjoyed professional success performing at a number of prominent Australian festivals and events like Bindi Irwin's 11th Birthday Party at Australia Zoo, Adelaide Fringe Festival – Storm in a Tea Cup and Xtreme Popera, South Bank Australia Day Celebrations and Christmas Parade and 4KQ Special Children's Christmas Party.
Students learn fun and entertaining circus skills at Flipside Circus School
Kinder Circus is for children aged 18 months to 9 years. Teaching basic circus skills, classes operate weekly on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
Seriously Circus classes are held several times during the week and Saturday. Classes cater for beginners, intermediate and advanced and are recommended for new students aged 6 to 18 years.
Performance Circus is for children aged 6 to 18 years and are invite only classes. Students will build upon their aerial/ground skills and have the opportunity to perform in events and festivals with Flipside Circus.
Unthink the Impossible are circus classes designed for children with special needs and those who require extra help with physical activities.
Circus classes are held at the Flipside Circus Training Centre, 117 Mina Parade, Alderley. Times and pricing for classes vary. Visit The Circus School and click on an individual class for detailed information. All circus trainers are professionals and hold a Queensland Blue card.
Flipside Circus is a non-profit organisation with strong ties to the community and has partnered with Brisbane City Council Night Rec team, Queensland Rail, Queensland Police and Brisbane Youth Service to run circus workshops for Brisbane street kids. Their program, held in King George Square (Brisbane CBD) is making a definite impact on youth with Flipside Circus stating "police have reported a decrease in crime on Saturday evenings since the program began and with the assistance of Qld Rail more young people are making the decision to go home rather than sleep rough in the city."
