The Flinders Ranges are a huge natural resource in South Australia and visitors are flocking there for a dose of this timeless wilderness in these strange COVID times, when local travel is booming. The Flinders Food Co. in Hawker is an absolute food oasis in the Flinders Ranges region. Hawker is 365 kms from Adelaide and a great spot to stop and revive, as hordes of people are doing.



Fresh Food Guaranteed
Flinders Food Co. prides itself on using only the best SA fresh produce along with native ingredients. Run by Doogal Hannagan and Louise Lynch, the emphasis is on fresh and bright food with plenty of healthy veggie options. Flinders Food Co offers a wonderful range of vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options both sweet and savoury. There are no tired old menu items here, the coffee is also surprisingly good, which is sourced from Melbourne, the coffee capital of Australia.



All Day Breakfast
Breakfast and brunch are the specialty of Flinders Food Co. and everything is made on site and tastes as good as it looks. The All Day menu is currently available from 7.30am to 2pm. A sample of the menu options includes Explorers Muesli, Bacon and eggs, Cornbread and avo, Honeycomb pancakes, Smoked salmon benny bagel, Poke bowl and a Brisket beef burger. The Explorers muesli is very fresh and comes with warm milk of your choice. The food is so good it is very tempting to have that second breakfast, it is definitely a must-do for the journey. Craft beers are also available.



Restored Heritage Building
The venue has transformed an old building by opening up the interior spaces, with glass doors looking out onto an outdoor dining area, in addition to the large front veranda that has many seating spaces to watch the comings and goings. A section of the original brick wall has been preserved inside behind the barista station.

Otherwise just sit and enjoy the outback ambience and delightful fresh food. Flinders Food Co. combines the best city-style food with outback hospitality. I only wish I lived closer; I feel another trip to the Flinders coming on soon. This is a very popular spot so it pays to reserve a table ahead of time which can be done online here .
