Flickerfest, Australia's only AcademyŽ accredited and BAFTA recognised short film festival, is celebrating its milestone 25th anniversary this year and is set to return to Melbourne's Kino Cinemas for one night only on Wednesday February 17th.
Over 2300 entries from around the globe were received this year, of which 116 shorts were officially screened in competition across four Competitive Strands, Australian, International, Documentary and GreenFlicks, including 20 World Premieres and 60 Australian Premieres.
The films in competition were screened at Bondi Beach over a ten-day period in January and selected highlights from the festival are now touring nationally to 50 venues across the country between January and May, showcasing A-list short film programmes recognised amongst the best in the world.
The South of the Boarder: Flickerfest in Melbourne program will feature a selection of shorts from Victorian filmmakers, curated from the Flickerfest in competition screenings at Bondi. See the full program at the Flickerfest Website.
Highlights include three films that recently won awards at the 2016 Flickerfest; Slingshot, winner of the Virgin Australia Award for Best Australian Short Film (AcademyŽ accredited), The Orchestra, winner of the Yoram Gross Award for Best Australian Short Animation and Woof!, winner of the Avid Award for Best Editing in an Australian Short Film.
Another film to look forward to is Melbourne Academy award-winning filmmaker Adam Elliot's latest work Ernie Biscuit, the second installment of the Harvie Krumpet trilogy about a lonely deaf Parisian taxidermist whose life is turned upside down when a dead pigeon arrives on his doorstep.
