A chilly Saturday morning saw our fishing party of 8 casting off from Cape Jervis with Fleurieu Charters . While the 6am start might be a shock for the uninitiated, the fish were biting within 10 minutes of our reaching our first spot.

Despite my complete lack of experience with attempting to catch proper fish (snapper and tuna being our quarry for the day), Gary was helpful and patient in teaching me the ropes. This was particularly helpful when it came to getting to fish off the hook; a much more difficult task than you'd suppose.

After a few hours of successful snapper catching we headed towards Kangaroo Island in search of some tuna. It wasn't long before our one and only tuna was hooked and was finally wrangled aboard the boat after about 15 minutes of fighting.

Aside from the thrill of the fish chase, the trip afforded some lovely sunrise scenery over the mainland and wonderful coastal view of Kangaroo Island. The latter gave me something nice to focus on when I started feeling a little green around the gills from all the boat's pitching and rolling and I started to regret not taking a motion sickness tablet.

The trip lasted until lunchtime when we disembarked back at Cape Jervis with our catch (cleaned by Gary on the return), ready to be turned into a feast later that night.

While the trip was quite exhasuting, it was definilely a wonderful start to the weekend.

As well as fishing (bait and tackle all supplied), Gary also runs charters for sightseeing and diving, weather permitting.
