Flesh After Fifty will explore and challenge negative stereotypes of ageing while celebrating and promoting positive images of older women through art. In an age where only the young and the beautiful are visible, where high value is placed on physical appearance, attractiveness and youth, this groundbreaking exhibition explores the diversity of representation of older women, challenges your perceptions and creates discussions amongst all age groups.

Held at Abbotsford Convent , Magdalen Laundries, 1 Saint Heliers St, Abbotsford from 7 March to 11 April you need to register for this FREE event. There are three half-hour timeframes to choose from on weekdays that begin at 10am, 12pm and 2pm. Be sure to download the Education/Discussion Kit prior to your visit for the Education Tours for senior secondary and tertiary students. Relevant study areas include IB, visual art and design, media and screen studies, women and gender studies, art history, nursing, aged care, disability and support services, art therapy, public health and allied health studies. BYO Drawing Materials to explore works by Niki Koutouzis and Sam Jinks.

Do note that subject matter in some exhibits at Flesh After Fifty requires that minors under the age of 16 years are to be accompanied by an adult or guardian at all times throughout the exhibition. New art has been commissioned and existing art revisited from some of Australia's most dynamic and innovative individual and groups of artists, including Penny Byrne, Maree Clarke, Megan Evans, Janina Green, Ponch Hawkes, Sam Jinks, Deborah Kelly, Niki Koutouzis, Hotham Street Ladies, Ruth Maddison, Patrick Pound, Cathy Staughton and Catherine Bell, Greg Taylor and Peter Wegner.

Accompanying the exhibition is a mix of free and ticketed public programs in March 2021, with talks, workshops and performances all designed to celebrate and inform older women.
