These days, a growing number of people are thinking of music as noise; something to fill the silence in the car or a simple beat to dance along to with friends.
Then, there are those who believe music speaks volumes to the soul, that simple words on a page and chords strummed on a guitar when combined turn into something so tangible, it can be felt much like the caress of a loved one or the palpitating excitement of first love. It's to those people that the music of the folk-rock group Fleet Foxes would be most warmly received.
After their stunning Sun Giant EP and eponymous self-titled début were released in 2008 to widespread critical acclaim, Fleet Foxes have steadily gained a wider audience of passionate listeners, with tracks such as White Winter Hymnal and He Doesn't Know Why getting airplay on commercial radio.
Their second album Helplessness Blues, which was released earlier this year, was also received with praise from fans and critics alike. Their set-up included an astounding assembly of instruments including a 12-string guitar, a hammered dulcimer, an upright bass, wood flute, tympani, Moog synthesizer, a tamboura, the fiddle, clarinet, pedal steel guitar, lap steel guitar, Tibetan singing bowls and a vibraphone.
It's been over two years since the Seattle band toured around Australia and their announcement of venues to be played in 2012 thankfully included Brisbane's Tivoli. Their first show that was announced sold out within a matter of days but tickets to their second show on the 10th of January are still available.
To be immersed in the sounds of Fleet Foxes is to surrender yourself to the experience of being moved by true heartfelt music jam-packed with spirit and emotion. Become a part of it, tickets won't last long. Have a listen at www.fleetfoxes.com/music and visit the Ticketek website to purchase tickets.
