Flaxton Gardens is located in the Heart of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. Panoramic views from Noosa to Maroochydore are the perfect background setting for a meal.
We arrived with a largish party of 10 and were sat around the very back of the restaurant. I was excited by the lush gardens, views and elegant chandeliers. We decided on the set menu and made our choices. Our drinks arrived shortly after followed by our entrees. The dining experience went down from here.
The risotto was okay, it didn't have much flavour and one of my party had bones still in the meat. While the staff were friendly, they didn't ask or take the initiative to bring out the child's meal with the starters.
After this some of us went for a walk to admire the views. The restaurant had filled considerably since we arrived, but we squeezed past to checkout the old Queenslander style building and its accompanying grape vines. After a considerable time we returned to our table and waited for some attention by staff for another drinks order, in the end we had to go searching and ask someone to serve our table.
After one hour and 45 minutes, 5 complaints and an episode from the 5 year old who had not had any food, we finally received or main meals. For how long we waited and the effort required to get our meal the food was highly disappointing. We quickly cancelled our desserts so we could just go home. When it was time for the bill ,the owner came over and apologised and gave us a considerable price off the meal, but it was too little, too late I was a food-lover scorned.
If it wasn't such a busy day and our food arrived in a timely manner, then the meal may have been saved, hopefully this was just a horrible one-off. This probably would have been a nicer place for tea and coffee to admire the views.
I went there for coffee and thought that the restaurant had a lovely setting. The service that time was prompt and friendly. Sounds like you were unlucky. It's good that the manager tried to make amends.
Would love to know if you booked-a group of 10 people c an be a lot if you are not expected-experienced staff will always organise the kids meals first-always ask if that's what you want young staff will forget to ask
My wife and I had a similar experience last year when we went for a Christmas meal, expecting that at Flaxton Gardens' price and with their reputation, we would be served top quality seasonal fayre with trimmings.
Sadly, that was not the case, as we were belatedly served with what was obviously warmed up, pre-carved, probably frozen and reheated Turkey, poly-packet frozen vegetables which were inadequately cooked, and `roast' potatoes which were were just off of raw in the middle and still white/yellow on the outside.
Dessert was one miniscule `Plum' pudding each with some coffee/rum flavoured Ice Cream, instead of the Christmas Pudding and Brandy Custard that was listed on the menu we saw when we booked some weeks in advance.
At $35 a head it was not the most expensive Christmas meal one could find on the Coast by a large margin, but we could have had a Turkey meal of a similar or better standard at Nambour RSL on their `Roast Night' for $29 for both of us at members' prices.
So we certainly won't be returning to Flaxton Gardens any time soon.
I have been to flax ton numerous times with large parties and have to say the food and service was to die for! An absolutely exquisite place to eat, so much so that I have recommended it to a friend for her wedding!
