When a colleague excitedly told me about FlavaRich being selected for Adelaide Central Market's Producer in Residence for 12-30 November 2019, I eagerly recruited a couple of fellow taste-testers (a friend and her nephew) and headed into the Adelaide Central Market for Saturday lunch.

Up until now, none of us (taste-testers) had ever tried or heard of a bubble waffle. When we arrived at FlavaRich's stall, David and Sandy warmly welcomed us and explained the history of the original bubble waffle (Hong Kong - in the 1950s, as a way of making use of leftover eggs/egg mixture. Click here for further reading ).

Our visit to FlavaRich was focussed on experiencing FlavaRich's unique bubble waffle range - both savoury and sweet. The best option for my friend was the savoury vegan and gluten-free bubble waffle, her nephew ordered a dessert bubble waffle and I ordered the original savoury bubble waffle. Each of these creations is pictured above (along with the waffle iron and menu options which also include pho (pronounced "fuh") and banana fritters).

I'm pleased to advise the dessert bubble waffle was instantly demolished (eaten, without a crumb in sight) by my friend's nephew - he explained the bubble waffle was light and fluffy (like a pancake) and wrapped in a cone and filled with a selection of fresh fruit, two scoops of Golden North ice-cream and chocolate treats, he found it to be absolutely divine, totally nourishing and easy to eat!

Divine is the keyword which describes the remaining bubble waffles we consumed. My original bubble waffle was made of an egg and cheese mixture which smelt just like an omelette when cooking. It was then topped with an egg cooked to my liking (medium), cheese, teriyaki chicken, fresh vegetables and FlavaRich's signature salad topping of kale, pomegranate and chickpea salad, dressed with aioli.

My friend's bubble waffle was made from besan flour - it tasted just like a falafel (delicious) and was made even more nutritious and delicious with the topping (vegan aioli, cashew nuts, tofu, vegan cheese and FlavaRich's signature salad topping).

We were all delightfully and comfortably sated and agreed we will definitely be returning customers to FlavaRich, to experience more flavours and dishes. Being aware of our intentions, David very kindly and generously provided us with freshly cooked samples of FlavaRich's three dessert bases (pandan extract, chocolate and original) to try at home and explained all bubble waffles are best eaten fresh but they can be made ahead and reheated in the oven. This is where I disclose the waffles did not make it home - they were so delicious, we consumed them before arriving at the car!

A huge thanks to my colleague and to David and Sandy of FlavaRich who introduced us to FlavaRich's nutritious and delicious array of freshly made bubble waffles - we will be back! Please take into consideration the current wait time for full preparation of a FlavaRich bubble waffle order averages 6-8 minutes but I can assure you the wait is well and truly worth it.
