Dance class, is a phrase that puts the fear of God into even the most confident adult, but these days adult dance classes cater for all skill sets and even the most ambitious dancers. If you loved the flamenco-inspired Paso doble from Baz Luhrman's Strictly Ballroom, or a Flamenco Fire performance at QPAC, then a flamenco dance class or two at The Flamenco Studio is in order.

The Flamenco Studio owned by Brisbane's own internationally renowned flamenco dancer and teacher Simone Pope, provides flamenco dance classes at The Flamenco Studio. Simone has performed with Flamenco Fire throughout Australia and regularly returns to Spain to learn the latest Flamenco trends. The Flamenco Studio was devised by Simone in 2000 and has become a Brisbane hub for flamenco dance, students, touring workshops and concerts. As a teacher, Simone aims to teach her students the steps, history, culture and the important role of flamenco music (guitar and singing) in an easy, comfortable setting.

Term one kicks off at The Flamenco Studio with an absolute beginner class commencing on Thursday night January 30th from 7:30pm to 8:50pm at Spring Hill. The term consists of nine weeks of dance classes with Simone Pope herself from January 30th to March 26th. Simone offers a New Beginners class for every male and female who have had no previous flamenco dance experience. Other classes are available from beginners one through to advanced students providing upper body and feet technique along with choreography.

If your keen to try your hand this year at flamenco dancing, Simone recommends female dance students wear closed toe shoes with a solid heel along with a full skirt or comfortable pants and a comfortable top. Male students are asked to wear a heeled shoe, preferably a boot, with comfortable pants and a t-shirt/shirt to move in. Thursday night classes are located at Spring Hill Studio, 10 Love St, Spring Hill from 7:30pm. The cost is $200 for one class per week for nine weeks.
