It's an exciting month to be discovering stories of the Port through this year's History Festival! Hosting walking tours as of May 1st in Port Adelaide,
Flamboyance Tours has set up a two-hour walking tour of the Port, which will take people through the precinct's history and culture. Checking out the iconic landmarks such as the Lighthouse and Hart's Mill, the walking tour will take participants through a range of restaurants, galleries, and pubs, before concluding around Lipson Street and the waterfront, where participants will have a deeper understanding and appreciation for the heritage-listed site.
In case you haven't heard of Flamboyance Tours before, they were awarded $4750 from the State Government's Department of Environment and Water as part of the first-ever Heritage Tourism Grant program and this is their second year being involved with the
History Festival, alongside running the
Adelaide Queer History Tour. They have also been one of seven recipients (from 25 applicants) to have received part of a $250,000 share to promote South Australia's heritage through places and stories.
The History Festival is an amazing event showing so many different sides of South Australia. Telling stories of the Port has been high on my radar for some time, and now I've created something special with the chance to share it with as many people as possible. It will also give participants an understanding of what Port life was about in its early days of settlement, but also how it evolved over the years to what it is now,Katina Vangopoulos (owner and guide, Flamboyance Tours)
If you haven't been to the Port before or have not properly explored the area, you will be pleased to know that there are a number of beautifully-preserved buildings and examples of architecture that is unparalleled and unique in their designs and stories that give it a sense of character and charm.
Flamboyance Tours will be hosting two more Sunday walks throughout May - on May 15th and 29th 2022 - with additional dates on selected dates after the History Festival. Tix can be purchased
