It is hard to believe now but once upon a time you could see the bay from Flagstaff Hill, mail would take months to arrive and arrivals and departures of ships were the most exciting news...

Being a burial ground and weather station, signalling post and a place of illicit activities, Flagstaff Gardens saw the rise and fall of its fame and glory. The gardens were officially established at the end of the 19th century and by now are necessary and familiar part of Melbourne landscape. We do not even think of its history or changes the gardens went through the years... However, there are people that do.

Chris Mancee from the Royal Historic Society of Victoria knows a lot about those 'olden' times and the history of Flagstaff Gardens. He will be conducting tours on 16 August at 1 pm. Tours are free, but you need to book your place online (link is provided).

If you think that a walking history lesson is something you might enjoy, please head to the website to book your place here
