Are you looking at your empty Moccona coffee jar and wondering what you can make with it? The glass is so thick and it is such a good quality jar, it seems such a shame to part with it. Luckily there are plenty of things that you can make with it, for your house, your garden or as gifts. Here are just five ideas to make, this weekend...
1/ Glass Jewellery Dish
This stylish jewellery dish above, was made by taking the lid off a large Moccona jar, popping off the plastic inner lid and turning it upside down. Find your most glamorous, stretchy bracelet and stretch it around the neck of the dish. This is an easy idea, which looks simply beautiful. I often have friends comment on my dish when they see it in my bathroom, then they go home and make their own!
2/ Christmas Centrepieces
Large Moccona jars look effective when they are full of colourful Christmas balls, for a sparkly Christmas centrepiece. Whether you are looking for an idea for your dinner table, to put on the shelf with your Christmas cards or as a festive trinket for your display table, you can't go past this simple idea. Alternatively, place a large Christmas candle inside the jar, add some white pebbles around the bottom and light the candle, to create a subdued, Christmas mood.
3/ Candle Displays
As mentioned above, an effective way to utilise an empty Moccona jar is to pop in a candle and make a display. If you would like to brighten up a shelf, or a corner of the room, then create a candle display in the theme of your home. If you have a beach theme for example, why not add a blue candle, fill the jar with shells and display it with large shells all around. It looks so impressive, no one will even guess it is a recycled coffee jar!
4/ Colourful Painted Jars
These jars below were painted with a primer and then painted with a range of colourful acrylic paints (two coats). Jute rope was then wrapped around the tops and attached with superglue at the back. They can be used as pencil holders, home decor, pot plants and to store items in the kitchen. As my daughter likes Pokemon, we painted a Pikachu face onto a yellow jar, for her desk. If you are making one as a gift, think about their favourite colours, characters or what they will use it for. A hand-made gift is always well-received!
5/ DIY Gifts
Empty Moccona jars are ideal for making DIY gifts for family and friends. Think about what your recipient loves - whether it is crafts, cookies, marshmallows, plant seeds, craft beads or spices - and fill it up with the theme of your choice. Attach a tag to explain what it is and then enjoy their response. This thoughtful gift idea is budget-friendly, good for the environment and often one of the best presents they receive.
These are just five ideas of what you can make with empty Moccona jars, however, if you have any more ideas not listed here, please leave a comment at the bottom of this article and share your creative tips. Now, I'm off to make some more coffee...just so I can use the jars!
