Keep those coins and plastic under lock and key this May. Whether the winds of May blow fair or foul there is range of free entertainment across the greater Brisbane area to satisfy your artistic, community, design, sustainability and career urges.

[SECTION]Green Heart Fair[/SECTION]


Green Heart Fair is a product of CitySmart, Brisbane City Council's sustainability agency. It runs twice a year, once on Brisbane's northside and once for people south of the river. In May it's the northerners' turn for this sustainability event, where eco-friendly demonstrations and displays and games and giveaways are the order of the day.

When: Sunday 27 May 9am to 2pm.
Where: 7th Brigade Park, Chermside
What's On: Workshops with Brisbane Broncos and Queensland Bulls, markets, celebrity chefs, live music, and a kids hub with face painting, rock climbing and sustainability activities.

[SECTION]Pine Rivers Festival[/SECTION]


The Pine Rivers Festival is held over two busy and bustling weekends in May. While not all events are free, there are some free community events to tempt you out in the beautiful Brisbane autumn sunshine.

When: Saturday and Sunday May 19 and 20, and Saturday and Sunday May 26 and 27.
Where: Various venues throughout Pine Rivers

[SECTION]Brisbane Indesign[/SECTION]


Described as the ultimate event for design lovers, Brisbane Indesign will take over Brisbane's design hub, Fortitude Valley, on Saturday 26 May. While the event is focused on industry professionals anyone with an interest in design can attend so forget "The Block" and rock into real design with real designers.

When: Up Late Indesign Thursday 24 May 5pm to 10pm and Brisbane Indesign main event day Saturday 26 May 9am to 6pm.
Where: Various venues in Fortitude Valley
What's On: Displays and installations from 150 local and international design brands. Up Late in Design features a fashion and design street festival in James Street.

[SECTION]The National Careers and Employment Expo[/SECTION]


If you're looking for a job, want a career change, want to study or would just like to upgrade your skills the National Careers and Employment Expo showcases Queensland's education, skills, employment and training opportunities. Employers such as Queensland State Government, Defence Forces, Woolworths and Flight Centre, as well as education and training providers like QUT, UNE, TAFE Queensland, UQ and Sarina Russo will be on hand.

When: Friday 4 May 9am to 4pm and Saturday 5 May 10am to 4pm
Where: Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, corner Merivale and Glenelg Streets, South Bank
What's On: A range of education, employment and skills presenters, Construction Skills Queensland Construction Arena, Commonwealth Bank Heaps Handy Career Advice and a program of free seminars.

[SECTION]Mayes in May Festival[/SECTION]



The Mayes in May Festival is a yearly Logan event held at the historic Mayes Cottage, Logan's oldest residential property. This is one for all the family to go back to the days of the early settlers and experience what everyday life was really like for them.

When: Sunday 6 May 10am to 2pm
Where: Mayes Cottage, 20 Mawarra Street, Kingston
What's On: Pig races, sheep shearing, vintage car displays, blacksmith displays, tours of the cottage, market stalls, food and drink.
