Exhibitions neednít be expensive to see
With so many galleries and museums here in Canberra, it's not surprising that there are many free exhibitions that take place all through the year. Here are five that are taking place during autumn:


The National Film and Sound Archive has an exhibition currently on that is a little different to a normal exhibition. There isn't any film or TV props, or even a huge exhibition space. Instead, the newest exhibition is all digital and uses virtual reality headsets to explore Aboriginal song and dance across Australia.

Mr Squiggle Exhibition

To mark 60 years of Mr Squiggle, the Royal Australia Mint is holding an exhibition to commemorate Mr Squiggle and his creator, Norman Hetherington. The exhibition includes children's letters to Mr Squiggle, script books, original artwork as well as a portrait of 'Norman Hetherington OAM (and friends)' by artist Kate Rae.

Inked: Australian Cartoons

'Inked: Australian Cartoons' presents a selection of the best cartoons from the National Library's extensive collections. The exhibition includes more than two hundred years of Australian cartooning, since the First Fleet!

Māori Markings: Tā Moko

The portraits within this exhibition span over the last two hundred and fifty years, and show this unique Māori art of facial tattoos. The art featured in the exhibition includes the first illustrations of Māori people, made during Captain Cook's voyages as well as portraits of signatories to the Treaty of Waitangi.

Imprint: A survey of the Print Council of Australia

This exhibition was created to showcase a variety of printing techniques from artists across Australia. These prints have been collected by the Print Council of Australia for over 50 years, and include two new acquisitions from Jenny Kitchener recipient of the 2017 Print Council Commission.
