In 1870, the
Victorian Artists' Society began as a small group of like-minded and lay people to form the Victorian Academy of the Arts. They received a grant of land and erected a small bluestone building. Today this building still serves as a studio.
The VAS is registered as a not-for-profit organisation and a registered charity. Many of the activities held are organised by members of the VAS's council, who work on a volunteer basis.
From Thursday 17th October through to Monday 28th October 2019, the newly refurbished Victorian Artists Society Galleries is hosting "
". FIVE is a Melbourne Art Group and their exhibition will include paintings from Ted Dansey, Mary Hyde, Julian Bruere, Lucille Tam and John Hunt. The exhibition is featuring familiar Australian landscapes, timeless still lifes, bustling streetscapes, evocative scenes from travels, moving portraits and intimate interiors – a liking for everyone.
Admission to the is free and the artworks are for sale. The official opening will be held on Sunday 20th October at 2.00pm; however, the Gallery is open from 10.00am to 4.00pm on weekdays and 1.00pm to 4.00pm weekends. Address is 430 Albert Street, East Melbourne.
