Here's five South Australian country shows you can visit this spring that are all close enough to Adelaide that you can visit them in a day trip or less. Escape the city and experience the best of the South Australian country on show.
**Gawler Show
When: 23rd – 25th August
Where: Gawler Show Grounds, Nixon Terrace, Gawler
Cost: Kids $10.39, Adults $17.62, concession and family tickets available.**
The Gawler Show is SA's biggest and oldest country show and its proximity to Adelaide makes it the ideal opportunity for city slickers to soak up some country show atmosphere. Get out of Adelaide and drive up Main North Road to Gawler to experience a volunteer-run, not-for-profit, authentic country show this August.

**Murray Bridge Show
When: 28th and 29th September
Where: Murray Bridge Show Grounds
Cost: Adults $8, Concession $5, Family $20 (Pre-purchase at local IGA). Tickets available at the gate on the day.**
Murray Bridge is only an hour up the freeway, so why not head up to cross the mighty Murray River and enjoy the Murray Bridge Agricultural and Horticultural Show this September? Featuring the best produce the Murraylands and Mallee has to offer there'll be local trades and craftspeople at the trade stall displays, animals and produce, art and craft judging competitions, entertainment, sideshows, rides, food and fireworks. Bring the family along to experience the rural side of Murray Bridge.

**Yankalilla, Rapid Bay and Myponga Agricultural Show
When: 5th October
Where: Yankalilla Show Grounds
Cost: Adults $10, Pensioners $5, Children 5 – 15yrs $5, Children under 5yrs FREE**
The 'Yank' show has been held on the same show grounds since 1887! Just an hour from Adelaide and easy to get to via Main South Road, enjoy a pretty country drive down to Yankalilla and head for the grounds between Yankalilla and Normanville. The animals and produce of this rich and fertile farming region will be proudly displayed for all and sundry to view. The horses are a big draw card, there'll be plenty of arts and crafts, sideshows and rides, show bags, live entertainment and food and drink for all the family. Hours: 9 am to 4pm.

**Port Elliot Show
When: 12th and 13th October
Where: Port Elliot Show Grounds
Cost: Adults $12, Concession $8, Children $5**
Port Elliot puts on its 141st show this year with two days of competitions, displays and fun for the whole family. The equestrian competitions are on again, harness, show jumping, show horse, side saddle and novice sections will take centre stage on the Sunday. Local Fleurieu peninsula produce, arts and crafts will be on display for judging there'll be plenty of colour and excitement from sideshows and rides across the weekend. One special exhibition to check out this year is the old family recipe collections. This isn't your usual recipe contest, but a painstaking display of family recipes handed down the generations. The Port Elliot Show is at Port Elliot Show Grounds on Saturday 4th October from 9am – 5pm, and 9am – 4pm Sunday.

**Callington Show
When: 27th October
Where: Callington Recreation Park
Cost: Adults $8, Concession $5, Children $2 (Under 5's FREE)**
Having opened in 2002, the Callington show is bit of a newbie and even closer to Adelaide. It's just before Monarto Zoo on the South Eastern Freeway. Callington is a historic little town in the Bremer River Valley with plenty of character and it brings this unique character to the staging of its show at the Callington Recreation Park. This show features a hobby display, blacksmiths, working sheepdog competitions, over 100 stalls and plenty of local plants, craft and cookery.
