A smorgasbord for the visual sense
Ballet and dance can be wildly diverse and eclectic. West Australian Ballet's first production of the 2016 season, Five by Night, provides audiences with the opportunity to experience the wonder and excitement of this diversity.

West Australian Ballet's creative director Aurelien Scannella has drawn together 5 ballets from different dance genres. What a smorgasbord is to the taste buds, Five by Night is to the visual sense.

An equivalent of a tasting platter, Five by Night showcases 5 ballet pieces; 5, On the Nature of Daylight, Ambiguous Content, In Black and To the Pointe, ranging from contemporary to classical pieces, ensuring there is something that will appeal to everyones' tastes.

Two of the works are Australian premiere productions from world renowned British choreographer David Dawson. Dawson has choreographed a contemporary version of Giselle set to Adolphe Adam's original classical music. The first part of this production is 5; an explosive and energetic piece for 5 dancers, based on Giselle's Wedding Pas de Cinq. Dawson's second piece, On the Nature of Daylight, is a breathtaking pas de deux set to the music of Max Richter.

Craig Davidson is an Australian choreographer whose talent is being recognised in Europe. His new work, Ambiguous Content is being premiered at the Quarry.

Changing styles again To the Pointe is a hip/hop ballet choreographed by six West Australian Ballet dancers in collaboration with Australia's three-time Bboy champion, Pepito.

The 5th piece in the production has been choreographed by West Australian Ballet soloist Andre Santos. This piece, In Black, deviates from the traditional styles of ballet with pink tutus or funky contemporary dance. In Black demonstrates a dancer's gruelling training and incorporates challenge, trust, athleticism and hard work.

Five by Night will be performed in the spectacular limestone Quarry Ampitheatre. The stunning Quarry Amphitheatre in City Beach is one of Perth's premier outdoor performance venues and a unique setting to enjoy the ballet.
