Located in Tanawha on the Sunshine Coast, the magnificent 82 hectare Maroochy Regional Bushland Botanic Gardens is a haven for local plants and animals and is the ideal destination to connect with nature, in the heart of Kabi Kabi Country.

The stunning Maroochy Regional Bushland Botanic Gardens feature an awe-inspiring mix of natural bushland koala habitat, display gardens and recreational areas. It also naturally provides an inspiring backdrop for a variety of events: from performance and visual art to educational and wellbeing experiences.
Keep your children busy over the holidays with some awesome nature-inspired holiday activities, designed to celebrate winter and the outdoors at the Maroochy Regional Bushland Botanic Garden.
WINTER WEAVING

In the
Winter Weaving workshop , led by Alice from
Natureweavers, children will be using natural fibres, yarn and fabric, to weave a tiny winter hanging. Guaranteed fun using colour as they decorate with pom-poms and nature’s treasures.
All materials will be provided.
All children must be accompanied by a caregiver who is required to stay but does not need a ticket.
DIP DYE BUNTING AND BEETLES
TUESDAY 2 JULY, 11.00am to 12.30pm

Natureweavers, children will create works of art on folded paper by dipping and painting with vibrant inks. The pieces will then be sewn together into brightly coloured bunting, bringing colour to the cool winter days. For an extra bit of fun, children will transform some of the art pieces into cute-as-a-button beetles with their very own unique features. Perhaps some of these special beetles can be found hiding in the Botanic Garden …

BUSHLAND PILLOWS AND SALVES

Alice from
Natureweavers will be leading the Bushland Pillows and Salves workshop. Winter is a time for deep rest and is the perfect time to learn about native plants that have exquisite scents, whilst getting crafty making treasures to take home.
Children will sew a pillow and fill it with lovely dried leaves such as cinnamon and lemon myrtle and melaleuca blossom to ensure sweet dreams. Participants will then make a sleep salve with herbs to soothe skin throughout the cold season of winter.

Join 13 year old Spencer Hitchen from
Save Sunrise Glossies for this intergenerational photography workshop.
Spencer started World Stand UP 4 Nature Day in 2023 to inspire people around the world and to showcase all of the amazing people who are standing up for our last wild places. He also founded Save Sunrise Glossies and has been an untiring advocate for locally threatened species. Spencer has used his passion for nature photography in both these initiatives and is keen to share with other young people, how they too can use a camera to capture our beautiful and unique environment.
In conjunction with the University of the Sunshine Coast's Ageing Well program, this workshop will include intergenerational opportunities for young people to share their skills and tech insights with older participants. More information will be sent to registrants.
If you have a camera or photography equipment, please bring it along.
