To honour a legend and seek a cure
David 'Fitzy' Fitzsimons was a leading South Australian distance runner renowned for his legendary racing feats. He won multiple Australian championships, sixth place in the 1974 Commonwealth Games and bronze at the 1977 World Cup. However, sadly, he was diagnosed with non-hodgkins lymphoma and passed away at the age of 58.
Fitzy's 5 is a fun run conducted by Running SA in memory of David 'Fitzy' Fitzsimons. It aims to honour a legend as well as seek a cure for the disease. It sees over a thousand participants annually and raises funds for the Royal Adelaide Hospital Research Fund. It is also a key lead up to September's iconic City-Bay Fun Run.
This year, Fitzy's 5 Fun Run will be held on Sunday the 6th of August 2017. Its course is a picturesque five-kilometre flat road loop within the inner city of Adelaide. To register or for further information, do visit the Running SA website.
