Fitzroy , located in the leafy surrounds of North East Melbourne, is a paradise waiting to be explored in detail.

Victorian era terrace houses, dive bars, alternative drinking dens and an eclectic mix of a newly Gentrified suburb brimming with vibrancy and a sense of Europe, Fitzroy certainly lives up to the title of Melbourne's coolest and most unusual suburb.

My first experience of Fitzroy, almost two years ago, was of a late night out at the grimy staple of Johnson St, ' Laundry Bar '. It is a small but vibrant venue, featuring midweek 'DnB' parties and Aussie rap MC battles. After dancing the night away to a mix of ' Sampology Mash ' and other underground sounds from artists like Flume, we ventured onto the bustling and never sleepy 'Brunswick St'. It was in the search for a Greek Souvlaki, (Fitzroy is so famous for) that we encountered a very friendly busker belting out a heart-warming rendition of 'Wonderwall' by Oasis. After singing along and tipping the busker, a posse of around 10 random people joined us in our late night ballad, primed with much gusto.

In retrospect it was probably the greatest introduction to Fitzroy that one could hope for, and there are many more memories just like this one, waiting to be lived.

There is something for everyone in Fitzroy, and a good way to go about it, is to explore the area on a night out. Pop into a range of bars, eateries, record stores and artists gardens and traverse tucked away streets such as ' Gertrude ' and 'Johnson Street'. The beauty of this inner city gem is that a trip there, does not require a concrete plan, just go with the wind and immerse yourself in a sense of Wanderlust as this mentality will yield the best results.
