I secretly hate exercise and avoid it as much as possible. But every now and then, I forget about my lack of stamina and endurance...

So, this weekend I agreed to go to the Melbourne Fitness Festival and I signed up for a fitness class at the festival too. But my delusion didn't stop there. I thought it would also be a good idea to walk all the way to the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre.

Two hours later, I arrived hot, sweaty and just in time for my 11:30am class with ex-Miss Australia Rachael Finch at the Chobani Fit Fest Arena. I was suddenly surrounded by 60 girls (and 2 guys!) in their gym gear, pumped and ready to work out.

There were enough squat-jumps and running-man planks to bring me back to reality. I was thankful it was one of Rachael's signature 30-minute sessions and pushed through to the end. My face was red, my body was hot and sweaty and my legs shook, but I felt great. Alive. Invigorated. And proud of myself!

I took my newfound energy and spent the next 1.5 hours wandering around the festival, checking out a range of health and fitness exhibitors including the Lorna Jane warehouse sale, where I picked up a pair of snow leopard print summer shorts for just $30!

I stopped at the YoPro Wellness Hub for a Q&A with Madalin Giorgetta, a personal trainer and instagram entrepreneur, and watched a group of girls and guys swing around on bars at the PranaOn Playground, in what looked like a street-acrobatics style display.

The bodybuilding competitions on the Muscle & Model Stage were fascinating. Their perfectly sculpted, brown bodies were truly amazing - you could see every defined muscle moving like an animated anatomy video. I thought about the amount of work I'd have to do to look half as good as them - I'd probably need to grow a few inches taller too!

While I was feeling more confident about my physical fitness and abilities, I was certainly not ready to take on the Victorian Police Fitness Test and stayed well away from the Defence Force stall... (maybe next year?)

Instead, I had a good chat with the team from the Australian Physiotherapy Association about their 'choose physio' campaign. Did you know that you can see a physio without a GP referral? Physiotherapists are highly trained (the Uni degree takes about 4 years to complete) and they can help with anything muscular including crook backs, sports injuries, arthritic pain and even headaches - who knew?!

The festival was divided into two 'zones' - strength and active, with a range of inspiring and informative events, activities, talks and classes to suit all interests and abilities. Plus there's a load of great products from protein powders and supplements, to fake tan and active holiday tours - the Melbourne Fitness Festival is definitely a great day out for anyone interested in health, fitness and wellness!
