Absurdism, crabs and aerial acrobatics. What more could you want?

In a small circus school in North Perth, Fisticuffs lay waiting. I say lay, but it was more like badly hidden behind a large boxing bag.

Fisticuffs is a truly absurd piece of performance art; blending circus, comedy, theatre and good old-fashioned audience participation into a singular one-man show. If you are wanting to get to know the man behind the act and get a first-hand glimpse of life as an aerial acrobat, learning things other circus acts won't tell you, then this show does not disappoint.

Between Pina Bausch style dance routines and literally clowning around, performer Sven gives an intricate peek into the world of aerial acrobats and circus performers in general.

Sven performs a breathtaking aerial rope act, which I gained a newfound respect for after watching him perform for an hour. Like any other piece of performance art, audience participation is a large part of this show and Sven certainly involves his audience in new ways. So do the man a favour and get involved!

Fisticuffs plays until Sunday the 11th of February at CirQuest Circus in North Perth.
