Fishheads Restaurant & Take Away, Bangalow

We'd spent a lazy afternoon at the beach but decided to grab dinner before heading home. It was a little too early for dinner on the beach, so drove up to Bangalow to kill some time. It was only just after 5pm when we arrived, but the kids were complaining of hunger.
Most restaurants were yet to open for dinner, but Fishheads is open from Breakfast (8.30) through until evening. So in we went, the only people in the restaurant at such a ridiculous, but convenient for us, dinner time.
Some tables have comfy lounge seating, and there is pleasant outdoor dining. They also do a steady trade of take away, if that's what you're after. The decor is relaxed but funky and the music was even funkier. It made the early seating seem less late afternoon and more like an evening out, to linger over a drink and enjoy some fine food.
The menu offers a full range of stylish a la carte to fish & chips fare. I had the delicious local spanner crab ravioli, in a sauce of
preserved lemon, fresh herbs and brown butter. It was delectable, though very rich. I did however, manage to wipe the plate clean but alas, no room for dessert, which was unfortunate, as they have quite an enticing range.
The others went with the traditional fish and chips, and a sophisticated burger, which entailed an eye fillet with thyme,
roast mushroom, gruyere cheese, tomato & cos.
They also have a kids menu, that is very reasonable and the portions a generous. The crumbed fish was a huge success as you can imagine.
Fishheads is licensed or BYO (wine). They also have a restaurant in Byron Bay, with the deck seating looking onto Main Beach.
What started as a meal that would be compromised by tired children, turned into our favourite evening of the trip - everyone loved what they ordered and no one had to wash up!
