Woy Woy is a coastal town located on Brisbane Water. It is approximately 80kms north of the the Sydney CBD and is easily accessible by car or train. Once you are on the F2 Freeway, heading north of Sydney, it really is a quick trip. Fisherman's Wharf, located on Brick Wharf Road Woy Woy, is a great place to give you a taste of what the area has to offer. It really has a little something for everyone!

Being a coastal town, a great way to see Woy Woy and the surrounding area is by boat. There are a few options for you to consider. The first option is to take the ferry to Davistown or Empire Bay. The ferry departs from the western end of Brick Wharf Road (the ferry wharf is actually located on 'The Boulevard'). Or you could take the Cockatoo Ferry to Ettalong. The Cockatoo Ferry will take you on a 2 hour cruise through Brisbane Waters.

You could also hire a boat and go for your own boat tour of the area. Why not splash out and get a BBQ boat !

If boating is not your thing, there are many other land based activities to enjoy. For starters at the western end of Brick Wharf Road, there is an enclosed, shady park suitable for kids of all ages. It has a good selection of equipment that is clean and well maintained. There is a set of tables located in the park making it easy for mums and dads to enjoy a coffee from Fisherman's Wharf Restaurant (which is located right in front of the park) while keeping an eye on the little ones.

The Fisherman's Wharf Restaurant also provides some great food options including fresh seafood, takeaway fish and chips or you could eat in at the restaurant. It is also a relaxing place to sit and enjoy a beer or glass of wine and watch the birds and boats.

While sitting at the park (and in fact all around the area) you will see many birds including ducks, seagulls and pelicans. We were even lucky enough to see a beautiful diving duck.

You could go for a swim in the enclosed swimming area. It is located just in front of the park and has a boardwalk that runs around it - perfect for hot summers days.

Or bring the fishing rod and you never know you might just catch a fish or two. There are snapper, flat head and bream around - just make sure you have your fishing license.

Just up from the swimming area is the Woy Woy Soldiers Memorial Park. The memorial was opened in 1932 by His Excellency Sir Philip Game GBE, KCB, DSO Governor of New South Wales. It is a lovely place to sit and pay respect to our fallen soldiers.

There is a paved pedestrian walk that starts at the park and runs for about 1.2 kilometres to another park called Lion Park. Along this walk you will find picnic tables, swimming spots, beach steps and beautiful pine trees and palms.

At the end of the walk, you will come to Lion Park which is a great place to stop and have a picnic. There are tables, toilets and BBQ's, as well as a boardwalk.

Dogs are welcome on leash only. There is plenty of parking on Brick Wharf Road, or there is a Council car park at Woy Woy Oval (just off Brick Wharf Road). You can also get the train here, with the station just a short 500m walk away.

There a public toilets available at both parks as well as bubblers throughout the area.

So why not get out of the city and enjoy this wonderful place.
