For the past fifteen years the Lions Club of Mooloolaba have been operating and managing the Fishermans Road Markets. I can't believe, after two years on the Sunny Coast, I've only just discovered them! All Lions Club members are volunteers who willingly offer their free time for no monetary gain, therefore all net profits raised from the Markets are channeled back into either the Lions Club Projects or Local Community Organisations.

This differs to privately operated markets where wages are paid and profits are retained by the operator.

By shopping at the Fishermans Road Markets (also known as the Maroochy Sunday Markets) you are helping with the ongoing viability of the stallholders therefore ultimately you are also supporting many Community Projects. Without the Stall Holders, there would be no markets.

In addition to the Lions Club of Mooloolaba raising funds for the Community, other Community- minded groups are also involved in the Sunday Markets. Various Local Scout Groups benefit by operating a Sausage Sizzle, cleaning the grounds each Sunday after the Markets, and sharing the car parking with another Local Lions Club.

There are up to 128 stalls offering a huge variety of items for sale including local and market fruit and vegies, pet treats, hand tools, books, popcorn, fresh seafood, second-hand items, baby goods, home made toys and furniture. Make time for your weekly massage at the Markets, these are also readily available and ensure your body is ready for whatever the next week has in store for you.

This is my A to Z list of almost everything you can see and do at the wonderfully vibrant, very busy Fishermans Road Sunday Markets.

A..B..C

Apples, Bananas and Carrots

Apples, bananas and carrots were in plentiful supply (in addition to all the other super fresh fruit and veg) at this vibrant Sunday market and all very reasonably priced too. We managed to get avo's for $1 each! And….capsicums at $2 for three large ones! Where else is this possible on the Sunshine Coast?

D

The Fishermans Road Markets are furry family member friendly too! (Just for fun, try and say that sentence fast, without getting tongue-tied). I did notice that our four-legged pals were all on leashes and water bowls had been put out at various stalls to ensure our doggy family were kept super hydrated.

E

Excited... is how I feel every time I find a new market to explore.

F

Flowers, Fish and Face Painting

Even a pop-up stall from Eumundi Roses, selling beautiful bouquets of flowers direct from the grower to you. They're sure to be open for Mother's Day - for those of us who have forgotten and need to get something for Mum before breakfast.

The Fish Man, guaranteeing the best price on fish and aquarium supplies - I DO just love those Siamese Fighters and would love to own a few….one day!

Face painting - children can become their favourite animal or character and have their faces painted - this is a sure-fire way to ensure the littlies enjoy the outing too.

G

Garlic - Fresh garlic, Smoked garlic - all readily available to purchase.

H

Honey I'm home! You'll have to hurry, hunny, to get some Blue Gum Honey as the Fishermans Road Sunday Markets start as early as 6.00am and finish at 12 noon.

I

Divine Ice-cream with exotic flavours like mango, banana and coconut cream or how about a berry, banana and coconut cream. Dairy-free options are available too. There's nothing quite like walking around a market, ice-cream cone in hand to remind me of our family beach holidays when I was ever so much younger.

J

Keep the littlies entertained at the Jumping Castle - for ages ten and under - and at $4 a jump, I think pretty good value for money. I'm not sure what the time limit is though…

K

I just know you'll be as delighted as I am to locate these special Sunday Markets, well worth a visit.

L

Made for Lovin' were offering delectable taste-testers of caramel-coated nuts, making it extremely difficult to pass by without adding to the shopping bag.

Man's 'Stuff' and Mats

Man's 'stuff' - yep, a whole section dedicated to 'stuff' that keeps men busy - I couldn't tear hubby away!

And mats, bathroom mats, passage runners as well as outdoor mats - a very big selection at very affordable prices.

N

New and pre-loved clothing is available too - so a bit of fashion shopping won't go astray.

O

'Old Stuff' - I even came across a beautiful little stall with the most amazing antiques that were absolutely unique.

P

Plants and Poo

Plants for Africa….ummm, I mean Australia! The most stunning variety of plants available for sale and in pristine condition and at prices that would be difficult to match.

Poo - cow poo, chook poo and all sorts of poo - we all know our gardens love to be treated to this special fertiliser - though in saying that, only certain plants love it - one has to be extra careful when using it.

Q

Quirky - I just love these quirky markets that have everything for sale except the kitchen sink. Come to think of it, I might even have seen one of those.

Got broken or unwanted jewellery? Don't trash it - trade it at Quirk Recycled Beads where all products use components sourced from broken or unwanted jewellery. Eco-friendly and unique handmade jewellery and gifts.

R

Remember - we all need to remember that these markets are on every week Sunday, come rain, hail or shine.

S

Seedlings and Sourdough Breads

Seedlings - pop in to Bli Bli Herbs and Plants to get your new seedlings for Winter and Spring - with discounts being offered for bulk buying, it's well worth stocking up here.

Sourdough Breads, savouries, pies, artisan breads and cakes were all available at the Baking Company stall.

T

Beautifully cut and ready to be used timber was on display for those do-it-yourselfers wanting to make a coffee table, bench or just for show.

U

Whether it's umbrella weather or sunny, the Fishermans Road Sunday Markets are ALWAYS open.

V

Visit and Venue

Visit the Fishermans Road Sunday Markets and you'll discover their venue is in quite the stunning area right next to the Paynter River in Diddillibah. Picnic areas, barbecues and even a childrens' playground, are all easily accessible when visiting the Markets on a Sunday. Why not make a day of it!

W

Wendy's Soy Wax Candles - Wendy's offers an array of individually hand-poured, beautifully scented soy wax candles that are all totally natural. Wendy's even has a loyalty card giving you 10% discount off every tenth purchase.

Y
