Laneway love is a thing here in Brisbane. There's something about those hidden narrow spaces sandwiched between brick walls in city streets that smacks of magic and mystery, especially when those laneways have been reinvented as welcoming spaces to meet, dine, drink and shop. One of our favourites is South Brisbane's Fish Lane, and it's so good that it has its very own festival — there aren't many laneways that can lay claim to that. On Saturday 13 May you can celebrate everything that's great about this part of the world at the second annual Fish Lane Festival. And it's FREE entry.
Don't let that small package laneway feel fool you. This festival is going to be big, spilling into the surrounding area with street eats; craft beer, wine and cocktail pop-up bars; three (yes, three) stages presenting local live music & DJs; and plenty more besides. And, if you're up for it you have ten whole hours to enjoy all the food and fun. The action kicks off at 12 noon and parties on until 10pm.

The Melbourne Street area is a burgeoning foodie precinct, making the newest link in a culinary chain that now stretches from South Bank to West End. And some of the area's most popular eating establishments are on board for the festival, providing tasters, signature dishes and gourmet street food for your dining pleasure. How do you like the sound of Greek gastronomy from Five Sisters Cafe and Bar; Asian street food from Chu the Phat; the ever popular Fox Hotel; Julius Pizzeria; Saccharomyces Beer Cafe (saccharo-what-sees? - it's a species of yeast used in beer making); the newly opened Gelato Messina, Naim on Melbourne, 31 Degrees custom chocolates, Chef Ben O'Donoghue's Billykart, Bird's Nest Restaurant (Brisbane's newest Japanese Yakitori restaurant and bar); and Copperface Jacks.
