Not Your Usual Fish and Chip: Yummy Grilled Dori with Fresh Salad from Fisho's
There is nothing like summer afternoon at the beach with a box of hearty fish and chips. Imagine this: a freshly fried fish with a crispy batter, hot thick chips with a crunchy side and probably the Aussie favorite of old school deep fried dimsim. Hmmmm
So since it's still summer and chances are you are probably in Torquay for your annual dose of surf, sand and sun, here are some fish and chips eateries that can guarantee you get you summer beach picnic staple while in Torquay.
Let's start with Fisho's Fish and Chips It is located in the main esplanade, so Fisho's is hard to miss. A new establishment (it only opened last summer of 2015), Fisho's brings our classic fish and chip to the whole new level by adding the magic word "healthy". I think this is also a very smart move to tap the market in the health conscious society that we are today.
Aside from classic seafood platters of flakes and chips, Fisho's offers some fresh and delicious salad that minimise your guilt from eating too much oily and salty food. Try their quinoa salad along with your preferred fish or seafood to assure you get good, not the yucky feeling that usually come after fish and chip.
In Fisho's, you can also opt for a healthier fish or seafood by getting them grilled instead of fried. And other options such as fish tacos get people swear by it.
Another on the list will be Flippin Fresh located in the Surfcoast highway just off the footy oval. It is a favorite among locals. My friend said he loves the dimsim there and the place also has a good meal choices in the menu.
Jan Juc Fish and Chip will satiate your craving for the salty and hearty meal especially if you have been paddling hard in the surf at Jan Juc or Bells Beach. Located in Jan Juc little commercial area in Stuart Avenue just across Bird Rock look out, while the fish and chips might be standard, their burgers is a winner.
Another local favorite will be Torquay Fish and Chips on Gilbert St. A friend who has been living in town for ages swears by it. While fish and chip often comes with different quality depending on....-say your luck? -, he said that the fish from here is quite consistently good. It is using fresh fish, the batter is not overwhelming and the chips is hot and thick.
Last but not least is Fish and Chips on Bells St. This will be perfect if you stay at the Torquay Foreshore Caravan Park and will also make a good stop before you head for a nice afternoon in Torquay Beach near the Spring Creek.
Anyway, I totally get it that everyone has different preference over this summer staple foods. Even within my family members, agreement is ever hard to reach. What about you? Do you agree with my list or do you have other opinion? Please share what you think about your fish and chips in Torquay in the comment below!
